The handmade object is a reminder of what really matters in a world so full of speed, optimization, stress, technology and profit at any cost. We infuse our humanity into the objects we make, own and use. Through them we can find connection. There exists a subtle transference and relationship between maker and user, of ideas, of shared experience, of observation. The objects we pass between hands have the ability to communicate subconscious thought and feeling, reminding us that we are all human, all of this earth, imperfect but alive.

Process

All functional ceramics for sale at this time are hand built. I use slabs of clay and slump molds to create my platters, plates, some bowls, and dishes. Cups, vases and some bowls are pinch pots. All of my designs are made with a carving technique called sgraffito. Some designs such as the vegetables, figurative work, daffodils, ferns and eucalyptus are also hand painted using majolica paints and underglazes.

Care

All ceramics are fully functional and food safe unless otherwise stated. They are dishwasher safe but hand washing will extend the life of the piece. Do not microwave.
